Fall Fever

Would this really be a blog written by two girls if we didn't lust over fall at least every once in a while? The weather here in the Bluegrass was amazing at the start of last week with a crisp breeze in the air that just felt like walking to class in crunchy leaves and tailgating for football and buying cozy candles and all of the things I love about fall that make me nostalgic for college and excited for my favorite season. Despite the fact that it's already back in the 90s, this teeny tiny taste of fall has me itching to switch out my summer wardrobe for my favorite fall items. I'm trying to convince myself to hang on to my whites and pastels just a few more days until Labor Day, but it's a challenge, y'all. I just want to drape myself in burgundy and flannel and call it a day.

But, if I can't actually start wearing my fall favorites without melting in the August heat, I can at least think about them, right? Below are a few of my beloved pieces that become staples every fall, and a few things I might pull the trigger on once the leaves start changing....

1 | Utility Jacket A utility jacket is my #1 fall staple. It is the perfect item to bring your summer tops and t-shirt dresses into fall by layering up on cool days. I own this exact jacket in a light blue from a couple of seasons ago, a similar one in army green that I snagged at TJ Maxx, and an army green vest version scooped up from Target last year. What? I don't have a problem.

2 | The Perfect Boots Someone please buy these boots because I can't! Despite the fact that my body measurements almost perfectly match what is defined as an "average" American woman, I cannot wear boots unless they are specifically marked "wide calf." I actually bought these with crossed fingers during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale seeing that they are supposed to stretch to fit a wide calf, but unfortunately I could not put them on without physically contorting my body. With the perfect shade of suede, a block heel, and only slightly over-the-knee, these are even more beautiful in person, and I will be searching for a version that fits me this fall. Help a sister out if you've got any tips!

3 | Matte Lip During the summer, I tend to go very light with my makeup. However, sometime around early fall I start to step it up a notch. Something about the dark colors makes me feel a little more daring with my face. Even though I hardly ever wear lipstick to work or during the day, I love a matte lip for nighttime, and because it is so affordable, Elf is my favorite brand to use to experiment with new colors. Leftover from last year, I have the colors Praline and Cranberry just waiting to be used.

4 | Distressed Jeans Distressed jeans, a flannel, and booties comprise my fall uniform. Despite the high price tag, Madewell makes my absolute favorite jeans. I truly believe the price is worth it as these are the only jeans I've had that actually fit me (i.e. no gaping, not 5 inches too long), and they are great quality.

5 | Flannel Popover 'Nuff said.

6 | Layering Tees This is an item I got during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale that I kept. However, even not on sale, these tees are a great price! I scooped this up in tandoori spice, and it has to be one of my favorite t-shirts I've ever owned. It's so soft, has just the right amount of drape, and is tastefully angled so as to not look like a box. It will be my go-to all fall to layer with scarves, long cardigans, and utility jackets. I'll be keeping my eye out for when it is re-stocked in other colors.

7 | Animal Print If it's animal print, I'm buying it. Call me tacky, I don't care. I've got my eye on this sweater right now waiting for it to go on sale. I'm picturing it with a white collared shirt layered underneath, black ankle pants, and a bejeweled necklace for an easy, chic office look.
